School Filters

School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) provides public education to more than 14,500 students in Kamloops and many rural communities, including Chase, Barriere, Logan Lake, Westwold, Savona, and Clearwater. The majority of our district's residents live in Kamloops.

School District No.73 is composed of 32 elementary schools, one middle school, 10 secondary schools, one Kindergarten-to-Grade 12 school, two alternate education programs, and one distance education school. The district is the learning center for an averaged of more than 14,000 students for the last several years and employs nearly 2,000 people.

The International Program utilizes six of the District’s Secondary schools within the city.

 

Kamloops-Thompson International Student Program

District No.73 is one of the world leaders in English, Math and Science with British Columbia being one of the highest-ranking provinces and Kamloops being one of the best districts. It offers a variety of programs to suit the needs of our students, as well as support in terms of counseling and improving English language skills.

Homestay Program

International students can avail the quality homestay program arranged by the school with its network of Canadian families that are excited to welcome international students into their homes. The homestay team will match families with students based on similar interests. Students are placed as close to the attending school as possible, often within walking distance or in an area served by a school or transit bus.

 

Scholarships and Bursaries

British Columbia Student Awards and Scholarships

There are a variety of awards and scholarships available through the Ministry of Education.

BC Achievement Scholarships

Students do not need to apply for this award. Each year, the BC graduates with the highest cumulative average based on courses required for graduation (both required and elective) are eligible to receive a $1250 scholarship voucher to use towards their post-secondary tuition.

District/Authority Scholarships

There are 5500 District/Authority Scholarships distributed across school districts and independent school authorities that recognize graduating BC students for excellence in their chosen area of interest or strength. Winners will receive a $1250 scholarship voucher to use towards their post-secondary tuition.

Secondary School Apprenticeship Scholarships

These $1,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating secondary school apprentices who:

  • Have been registered in a school district Secondary School Apprenticeship Program (SSA) prior to graduation,
  • Successfully complete SSA 11A, SSA 11B, SSA 12A, and SSA 12B (Please note: In 2017-2018 these course codes changed to MWRK 11A, MWRK 11B, MWRK 12A, and MWRK 12B),
  • Maintain a C+ average or better in their Grade 12 numbered courses, and
  • Reported a total of at least 900 hours to the ITA within six months of graduation.
